Athletes Corner by The Centre of Attuned Sport

Therapy for athletes who are mostly doing fine.

Sport can be the best part of a young person’s week, and the hardest. Athletes Corner is one-to-one therapy for young athletes across Ontario, with registered clinicians who understand sport. You don’t need a crisis to start.

  • No referral needed
  • No diagnosis required
  • A specific concern or ongoing care
  • Registered clinicians who understand sport

01Why athletes come

Most of them are not in crisis.

They just want it to stop costing them. This is what we hear most.

01

“I get in my head before games and I can't turn it off.”

02

“I used to love this. Lately I dread going.”

03

“One mistake and the rest of my game is gone.”

04

“I'm back from injury physically. I'm not back in my head.”

05

“I don't know who I am if I'm not the athlete.”

06

“My coach and my parents want different things from me.”

02Whoever is reading this

You’re in the right place.

If you’re a parent

You’re not overreacting.

You’ve noticed your child isn’t quite themselves, or that sport is costing them more than it should. You don’t need the right words or a diagnosis to reach out. Start with a free 15-minute conversation.

If you’re the athlete

You don’t have to be falling apart.

This is your time, about your sport, at your pace. You won’t be pushed to share more than you’re ready to, and nothing goes to your coach without your permission.

What athletes build

  • Reset after mistakes
  • Handle pressure before competition
  • Rebuild confidence after a setback
  • Understand how body, thoughts and performance connect
  • Speak up with coaches, teammates and parents
  • Separate self-worth from one game or result
03What happens

Simple, private, at your pace.

  1. 01

    Reach out

A short form. No intake questionnaire.

  2. 02

  3. 03

    First session

Mostly questions about sport and what you want different.

  4. 04

    You set the goal

The clinician builds the work around it.

  5. 05

What parents are told

Whether sessions are happening and how things are going in general. What is said in the room stays there, except where safety requires.

What coaches are told

Nothing, without written consent from the athlete. Clubs and schools never receive individual information.

Ivi Lindau
Founder & Clinical Director

Ivi Lindau

RSW · MSW · BCYC

Ivi is a Registered Social Worker with twenty years of experience alongside children, youth and families, in community programs, school boards and clinical practice. Her work has included supervising support for families affected by violence and building programs with young people in equity-deserving communities across Toronto.

Ivi doesn’t believe in fixing kids. Young people are innovative, powerful and creative, and they teach her something new almost every week. That is why she became so passionate about the adults they trust: building their skills and confidence, and meeting families where they are.

“I will leave. But you will be there through the ups and downs together. So the skills have to be practical, and they have to be yours.”

She founded The Centre of Attuned Sport to bring that work into sport, and designed the SHIFT framework and the Bounce Back program.

05Who you’d see

Registered clinicians who get sport.

Every clinician is a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist in good standing in Ontario, and understands training, selection, injury and team life. Ask for a registration number any time.

06Questions

What parents ask first.

My kid says nothing is wrong. Should they still come?
Often, yes. Plenty of athletes arrive saying exactly that and leave with language for something they had not been able to name. A consultation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. If your athlete genuinely does not want to be there, we will tell you that too. Therapy that someone is dragged into rarely works.
Will this go on a record somewhere?
Clinical records are kept privately by the clinician, as regulation requires, and are not shared with schools, clubs, coaches or your family doctor without written consent. Nothing appears on a school record, and nothing follows an athlete into selection.
What does it cost?
Focused Six is a package of six fifty-minute sessions for $1,080. Ongoing therapy is $180 per fifty-minute session. The first consultation is free. Most extended health plans reimburse sessions with a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist, so a good portion of that often comes back. Ask us and we will tell you exactly what to check on your plan.
